Gender roles expect girls to marry a man of their parents’ choice and if they don’t, they are labelled as characterless or disobedient. Boys are expected to follow the footsteps of their fathers. If a man has worked day and night to build his business, his son is bound to take over.

Tell me to be ‘ladylike’ and sit cross-legged.
I will spread them far apart, do a split,

Mother why can't he help you cook? 
I have to go study chapters off my textbook 
“Shush you child” said my mother 
“Don't get silly thoughts, he is your brother” 

Since I was a little girl, I was taught to behave in a specific way because I'm a girl, to dream specific dreams that are only allowed for girls, such as taking a good degree - not to make a successful career, but to marry a good rich man with a high position in society, so I can live happily ever after.

I'm more than what I can cook. I'm more than how tidy my house is. I'm more than any cage they try to push me into.
